Américo Mateus holds a PhD in Business Management from the University of Évora, where he developed and validated the innovation design methodology IDEAS(R)EVOLUTION. He is also the author of Co-Nature’ing, a conceptual and pedagogical framework advancing relational design between humans, nature, and intelligence.
He is an integrated researcher at CIAUD – pólo COFAC, Coordinator of the Strategic & Expanded Design Research Group | LAB at Design ID Lusófona, and Director of the Master in Design for the Circular Economy at ISMAT, Portugal.
With more than 55 scientific publications and practical applications across academia, industry, and territorial innovation, he focuses on participatory design, biodesign, circular economy, and nature-positive innovation.
He is Principal Investigator of the EU Erasmus+ Forward-Looking project COCOON – Co-Creating Greener Futures, and a senior researcher in URBiNAT (H2020), BiomaterialKIT (EU-Twinning), and the new Horizon Europe project Deep Carbon Shift, led by IAAC Barcelona
His work integrates design, science, and entrepreneurship to foster creative and regenerative ecosystems for sustainability.
